Spooky lights causing a stir across Calderdale have been captured on camera. The pictures were taken by Mark Jefferys who spotted the strange activity in the skies above Mytholmroyd.
His wife Mandy, of Ashton Road, Mytholmroyd, called him and their sons Matthew and Liam outside after she looked up and saw the strange lights.
She said Matthew, 12, and Liam, 13, thought the lights could be UFOs.

“I was just coming back to the house with the dog and saw there were seven of these orange lights coming over. There were two together, then another two, then one and another two. I shouted Mark to come outside and he took some pictures. It couldn’t have been helicopters because they were orange lights, not white. I’ve never seen anything like it but Mark said he thought he’d seen something similar when he was a kid.”
Other citizens came forward to report seeing the strange lights flashing above Mytholmroyd between 8pm and 9pm on Monday.
But Gemma Kipping, of Todmorden, said she spotted the same activity two weeks before.
She was in her garden when she saw four lights above.
“It couldn’t have been an aeroplane, they were moving too fast,” she said. I thought they could have been hot air balloons but who would be out in a balloon at night?”

Spooky activity has been lighting up Calderdale’s skies. Strange lights have been seen flashing above Mytholmroyd on Monday between 8pm and 9pm.
Chris Granger, 45, of Vale Mill Cottages, Cragg Vale, said he was shocked to see six bizarre lights for two to three minutes before they disappeared.
The ex-RAF avionics technician, said: “The bright yellow lights emerged from the cloud base in pairs and moved towards Hebden Bridge. They moved in a very erratic manner and did not display the flight characteristic of a conventional aircraft. Nor did they display the normal lighting array of a conventional aircraft – flashing white strobe, and red and green navigation lights.”
And Peter and Marion Ackroyd, of Cleveley Gardens, Mytholmroyd, also saw something spooky.
Mr Ackroyd, 62, said: “I have no clue what they were. I thought they were balloons but they were going too fast and there was no engine noise at all.”
Last month residents in Hebden Bridge and Sowerby Bridge reported being woken by the sound of a UFO.

THE mystery of Calderdale’s very own X Files rumbles on with scores of Courier readers woken by an apparent UFO.
The object was spotted by primary school teacher Sarah Smith, circling above Hebden Bridge in the early hours of the morning and residents across Calderdale have since added weight to the claims.

The UFO circled the town in a slow 10-minute loop at around 3am and passed over Sowerby and Greetland. It was said to be so loud people got out of their beds to see what it was.
But with the authorities denying there were any flights over the area at that time, the object remains a mystery.
Mrs Smith, who lives in Hebden Bridge and is a teacher at Warley Road Primary School, Halifax, said: “It woke me up it was so loud but the sky was very cloudy and I couldn’t really make out what all the racket was. It sounded like some sort of helicopter but I could only see its light and not much else. It was rumbling and rattling but there was no searchlight coming off it. It was really weird to see, especially at that time in the morning.”
Other people also reported hearing the flying object. One Sowerby resident said: “It was very loud and it woke me up but it was difficult to see anything but its lights. Occasionally I could see a dark mass.”
Another woman who lives at King Cross, Halifax, commented, “I also heard something that sounded like it was right above our house. It woke my children up and I presumed it was a police helicopter. But thought it odd when there was nothing in the local news.”
The police and military both deny any helicopter searches in Calderdale last Wednesday.
A Ministry of Defence spokesperson, said: “There was no flying activity by us in the north of England that night. It’s a mystery.”
There has been a recent spate of UFO sightings across Britain, with 22 in the past month alone.
Recent UFO sightings include soldiers seeing 13 objects above their barracks at Tern Hill, Shropshire and a police helicopter reporting a close encounter with a UFO near Cardiff.
