Chester Named 2nd Most Haunted In UK

Located in the North West of England in the county of Cheshire, Chester has something spooky for everyone.
A spooky hot spot
A new study has revealed Chester has more sightings of ghosts, poltergeists, werewolves and other supernatural ghouls than any other city, apart from Derby.
The Supernatural Britain report, conducted by Lionel Fanthorpe, one of the UK’s leading authorities on the unexplained, found Chester to be joint second along with York in the haunting stakes.
Leeds was named as the least haunted city.
Mr Fanthorpe revealed the findings after studying the number of spooky sightings in each city.
Chester was found to have 11 sightings per 10,000 people.
The study found most reported hauntings were connected with historic battles and invasions with the most prevalent being of Lord Bernard Stewart, who was killed after being heavily defeated at the battle of Rowton Moor in 1645.
There is also the legend of the vampire of St John the Baptist Church, with believers of the supernatural claiming an 11th Century monk became a vampire after death.
Tom Jones, a Chester tour guide, agrees with the findings of the report but thinks Chester should be placed at the top of the list.
“I can speak from experience from having done hundreds of ghost tours in the city,” he said.
“The nice things about Chester are that the ghost stories belong to Chester. They are not generic.”
