Down To The Pub For A Pint Of Spookiness
by Lisa Campbell
A local team of paranormal
investigators hope to learn
the haunting secrets of the
Bracken Arms pub.
From the first moment the new landlady stepped into the Bracken Arms pub she felt it was haunted, now she knows it is.
Angie Bailey hired the White Rose Paranormal Investigation Team to conduct an operation in her pub after feeling “a presence” there 12 months ago.
More than 20 people turned out on Saturday, at 11pm, to see if they could find any spooks and stayed until the early hours of the morning.
Groups went around using high-tech voice-recorders, cameras and electromagnetic field meters among other equipment to find signs of the world beyond.
Proceeds from ticket sales for the event were donated to Airedale Hospital’s special care baby unit.
Ms Bailey said: “It went really well. A lot of people who don’t believe in that sort of thing came along and went away thinking they weren’t really sure any more.
“We picked a lot of things up on the voice recorders, there was a dog barking clear as day that no one had heard at the time and you know it was there because you could hear your own voice on the tape too.

“Another tape picked up this really eerie laugh. We’re just waiting for a report back from the team about the history of the pub and the area to see if anything fits from what we heard.”
But regulars at the pub, at Bracken Bank, Keighley, have already put the barking dog down to an old Jack Russell called Rusty who used to live in the pub, and died at 17 years old.
Julie Benford, a member of the paranormal investigation team, said the hunt had gone well from their perspective.
She said: “We have been going through all the photographs and we can see a lot of really large orbs, light anomalies, in the background, which is a big sign of spirits.
“There were a few girls in the back room asking questions with ‘yes’ and ‘no’ cards and one of them got in contact with her old auntie. They were all in floods of tears.”
Tickets for the event cost £20 and goods such as T-shirts and tickets for future hunts were raffled. Altogether they raised £265.
The team will visit The New Inn, at Halifax Road, Bocking, this Saturday.
Those interested can turn up on the night or buy a ticket from Julie Benford on 01524 858124.
