Pub Owner Calls In Ghost Finders

The owner of the Three Pigeons Inn wants to solve a strange mystery.

imagePub landlord Jim Short has called on the services of a team of paranormal investigators to try and solve the mystery behind some strange goings on at the centuries old Three Pigeons Inn, at Graigfechan, near Ruthin.

The pub dates back at least 300 years and there’s been a hostelry on the site for much longer.

What’s more, two of the regulars are more reluctant than most to leave after time is called – an elderly gentleman and a young girl.

That’s where ghosthunters UK-Paranormal came in with their sophisticated equipment developed specially to sniff out the spectral.

Jim said: “I’m a bit sceptical about all this but there is definitely something odd going on.

“We seem to have two ghosts here and quite a few people have seen them – there’s a young girl who is very mischievous and an elderly gentleman who seems to be upset about something.

“She frequents the top bar and the ladies’ toilets and bangs doors, switches lights off and on and even turns off the gas in the cellar which is a nuisance when you’re trying to pull a pint.

“The elderly man is usually around the fireplace in the old part of the pub and seems rather angry, apparently because someone hit him.

“We’ve been told that he’s an old landlord of the pub from the mid to late 19th century and quite a few people have seen him and she’s a young girl, daughter of an earlier landlord, who was killed on the road outside by a coach in the early 19th century.

“Usually you just seem to glimpse them out of the corner of your eye and when you look directly there’s nothing there but I asked the old man if he wanted a pint once and he got quite excited.”

Barmaid Sam Kell has lived in the village of Graigfechan for over 20 years and has no doubt about the existence of the ghosts: “I’ve seen the old man,” she says: “But the ghosts don’t frighten me, I think it’s quite nice.

“You don’t go into many pubs that have two spooks in the place and there’s nothing malevolent or scary about them.

“It’s like they’re playing, turning on taps and things. We’ve got a mirror in the pool room so we can keep an eye on it from the bar and you can see the pool balls moving in the mirror even though they’re perfectly still on the table.

“When they’re turning taps on and things like that I find myself talking to them and telling them off.”

The founder of UK-Paranormal is mum of three Sheena Young, from Gronant, near Prestatyn. She is a medium but says: “It’s fine for me seeing or hearing things but if no-one else can then we need proof.”

Members of the group, including Sheena, will be spending this Friday night at the pub and will be having their own lock-in after customers have left.

Among the battery of equipment UK-Paranormal will be bringing to bear on the poltergeists of the Pigeons will be negative ion detectors for picking up electrical energy fields, motion detectors, electro-magnetic field meters, thermal imaging cameras and infra-red thermometers.
