The Mystery Of The Ghostly Photograph

by Dean Terry
This is a photo sent to me by someone who wished to remain anonymous. There is also a story which explains the photo. Very mysterious indeed. My only question - is it real?

“The young man in this photo visited a historic site in Georgia called Fort Mountain with his friends and he asked them to take his photo while hiking. While his friend took the photo, he screamed and fainted.”

“Then two days later he died in the hospital. The doctors said he died from a heart attack.”

“When the photos where developed, in the last photo there was a woman standing next to the young man, even though his friends said there was no one with him when the photo was taken.”

“People say its the ghost of Cherokee Chief Ross’s wife.”

Can this photograph be real? Or is it a hoax? You decide.

Completely and utterly fake. What was the name of the man that died? what hospital was he treated at? What was the name of the doctor? All evidence that would lend some authenticity to the story. As for the photo itself? A poor photoshop job.

I checked with the person who sent the photo and they could provide no additional information.

Looks like we have 1 vote for fake.

The photo is an obvious fake.  Problem one is the color.  Problem two the picture is of an oriental ghost - notice the guy in the photo appears to be asian. Add in the way asian movies paint and portray ghosts and you don’t have to look very far.  This will save you the time with the problems with the light and shadow.  Insulting really.

Oh, and I must add an asian ghost in Georgia, at an indian site sounds a tad far fetched.  You can do better than this.

I saw this photo on another site a while back, it was proved to be a hoax.

This pic was emailed to me months ago.  And a lot of other people.
Definately a hoax.

Fake - SNOPES web site which covers urban legends, etc. debunks it

I received this same picture in an email which said I would be granted good luck (or something like that) if I forwarded it to 10 other people. Fake, fake, fake.

Looks like 7 votes for fake - so far.

With the dark background it would be easy to fake, but that does not mean it is faked. And even if someone said “I faked it,” it could be like the crop circles in Britain. After a spate of very complex circles to old guys said they had done it all with planks and bits of string for a joke.

But it was proved the work could not have been done in a single night by two guys. And it was very unlikely the two planks who claimed responsibility would have been capable of the complex geometric calculations needed to make the designs.

In the end there will always be some people gullible enough to believe any whacky theory and others who will not admit, no matter how strong the evidence, that things happen which are beyond rational explanation.

Ian - I agree completely. There are many, many things that happen which are beyond rational explanation. I try to keep an open mind about such things.
Ian, thanks for your comment and please say a big “Howdy” to Fat Sally for me - and “congrats” to Jenny Greenteeth on her promotion.
