8 MUST FOLLOW RULES FOR YOUR CHILD’S ONLINE SAFETY

As safe Internet usage for kids is a growing concern for parents all across the world.  Here are a few basic rules that you must have in your mind if you want to safeguard your kid against the potential threat of the Internet.

Before starting with the measures, it is compulsory that the parents themselves must have a very clear understanding of these potential risks and threats. Currently, there are a lot of parents, who themselves are not very much aware of such threats. For the parents not belonging to the tech background it is a bit difficult to understand but not impossible. Parents must have a clear understanding of Cyberbullying, Cyberstalking, Online fraud and scams, online abuse mentally or physically, data or information theft, etc.

Once parents are on good to go track they can easily set some basic rules for the children.

  1. Risk assessment of the platform – Parents must do a clear risk assessment of the platform that the kids are using. For online learning, lido classes are best in providing quality content and a highly safe and secure learning methodology.
  2. Use Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware- Good quality of anti-virus can help you protect from major security threats.
  3. Make sure that the child browses in open space so that you can see what he or she is searching on the Internet
  4. Make time rules for browsing and using the internet and that time must be mainly in the day time so that you can know what they are doing.
  5. Teach them about online frauds and activities such as cyberbullying and take them under your confidence if something like that happens to them then they can easily reach out to you for help.
  6. Never let them shop online alone, they must be supervised with some adult always because if they do it alone then they are most likely to be looted under some fraud or online scam.
  7. Teach them about privacy and why it is important to protect privacy. You must teach them the importance of strong passwords.
  8. Teach them the tactics that most attackers use to attack your system such as spam mails, random messages with links. They must understand that they should not talk to any rand stranger on the internet and must never try to meet them in person.
