The City of Joy has earned this title for itself for multiple reasons including the amazing renditions of world cuisines here. A tourist in Kolkata will never be disappointed, at least in terms of food. With a huge number of eateries ranging from random stalls on the roadside to the star-rated hotels serving eclectic delicacies of the finest quality and taste, Kolkata can be justly referred to as a foodie’s paradise. Here, you will get to savour all sorts of cuisines (national and international) that you ever wanted to try from a specific city. Out of many cuisines that are served here in these restaurants, Italian cuisine has recently cropped up as people’s favourite and I must add, has become my favourite too.
I have been residing in Jamshedpur for the past 6 years due to work and have always wanted to visit Kolkata, especially for food. Upon reaching the international airport, my first quest was for hotels near me and I immediately booked a room at the Holiday Inn, Kolkata. Next, I was keen on trying out the joints famous for their Italian specialities and I found some gems that I cannot resist but share with you all. So, here is a list of the best Italian restaurants in Kolkata that have become my favourite and soon will be yours too.
The GRID
Located within the Ground Haute Corporate Park in Topsia, The GRID is an exotic Italian eatery serving some of the best in-house specialities of the cuisine. The decor has been designed in the shape of an actual grid which gives it a haphazard yet sophisticated setting. The GRID has a specialised Microbrewery in which they concoct some beautifully crafted beers. These are exclusive of this place and you will not find a similar taste anywhere else. If you are here for light and quick refreshments, do not miss out on their range of finger food. Fish sticks, waffles, St. Elmo’s mushroom and thin-crust peri-peri pizza are some of their specialities among a whole lot of others. The seating area is brightly lit and the ambience is overall, a soothing one.
The Corner Courtyard
This one is my favourite. With an old-world charm all over the place, The Corner Courtyard is an aesthetically decorated Italian cafe that is renovated from an old mansion. The exteriors are painted with a serene white shade and a New York-style board with the cafe’s name on it. While the busy Sarat Bose Road offers a ruckus that will tire your ears, upon entering this cafe, your ears are bound to be greeted by slow, lo-fi music in the background. The wood-fired thin crust pizza is their speciality and is available with a choice of mouthwatering toppings. If you are more of a pasta person, this place is again a win. Their Sicilian penne and cannelloni pasta are two of the crowd favourites. Also, The Corner Courtyard is the only place in Kolkata to offer authentic Philadelphia cheesecake. Thus, you cannot escape this place without having it for dessert. Chicken caesar salad, chicken lasagna, steamed bhetki and chilli cheese toast are some of their other popular delicacies.
Cafe Mezzuna
Cafe Mezzuna is an extravagant posh eatery with two main outlets, one in the South City Mall at Lake Gardens and the other at Forum Courtyard, Bhawanipore. I happened to visit the Bhawanipur outlet. While here, you cannot afford to miss out on their special hand-tossed thin-crust pizzas with a range of delicious toppings. You can also customise your pizza by informing them about the ingredients you want in it. This place also serves cocktails of the finest quality. A barbeque chicken pan pizza along with a virgin lemon mojito is what I had ordered and must I add, the taste was heavenly. The crowd is an upmarket one but due to several attractive food deals, you may find it difficult to get a table at Cafe Mezzuna. Thus, it is better to pre-book tables according to the number of guests. Some of their specialities, apart from pizzas include- Moroccan lamb chops, mustard prawns, Mezzuna fish and chips, and stone-grilled chicken.
Thus, these are the best places for authentic italian food atlantic beach sc you should check out in Kolkata. Every lane in this city has a shop selling authentic delicacies and all you need to do is discover and explore these gems at your own pace. Trust me, if you are a die-hard Italian food lover like me, then you would love these places for sure.
